As we roll into our teenage years, you won’t see us getting cranky and slamming doors. With only seven of them, we’ll be using them wisely, welcoming new team members, pleasing clients, launching scores of new websites, and eating plenty of cake (countless pieces of cake).

With each year blurring into one, it only feels like yesterday that we celebrated our 10th birthday, and that felt grown up. But, changing from a tween to a teen, that’s something else. And while the number 13 might be unlucky for some, we see it as a badge of honour. We started out at the start of the financial crisis, and we’ve seen out the worst of a global pandemic while continuing to grow. That’s not just luck. That comes from the hard work of the talented team we’ve assembled, without whom there wouldn’t be an award-winning agency.

Remote plans

Like most agencies, we’ve found ourselves running a remote studio for big chunks of the year and loved the flexibility it comes with. But, it’s also shown us how much we’ve missed each other, being able to bounce ideas and learning face-to-face (not that close), that you’ll never completely replace as a distanced team.

So this year, we made it our thing to continue home-working Monday’s and Friday’s and to get together on the other days. It’s a good balance for everyone and means less time commuting, so we all get an extra few hours (even more for some) each week to spend with family and on our well-being. There are definitely more gym-goers this year.

It also allows us to mix up plans in the future to hire newbies from further afield and give everyone more flexibility from where they work.

Continued growth

Made in ‘08, we started as a team of two, focused on delivering design services to other agencies. Today we deliver brands and websites in-house for our own clients, growing to a team of four, then five, and from September, six again.

Last month we welcomed a new senior designer. Unfortunately for us, we have to wait a few months for their official start date. But, they do say; all good things come to those who wait, and we can’t; it’s going to be awesome.

With over 12 years of experience and a sharp eye for design, we know our clients will love the new addition. We’ll make sure to shout about the news nearer the time.

The number 13 doesn’t always have to be unlucky; our team, who are at the very core of the agency, strive to deliver award-winning sites for everyone from accountants to beer brands and classic car restorers. And it shows, our peers continue to recognise our work, and we now boast over 65 awards and accolades.

Beer has always been a big part of our celebrations, and there will be a few pints sunk to recognise our success and birthday this year. So it’s good to know we have Fourpure and Magic Rock Brewing in our corner supplying the amber nectar.

Part of the Lion Little World Beverages group, both brands came to us in 2020 to develop two new eCommerce stores on Shopify that could sell simple, discounted and bundled beer products. In recent months we’ve launched both Shopify stores to make buying beer refreshingly simple.

We’re proud to look back on where we’ve been, especially the support everyone on the team has given to each other, the studio, and our clients in the past 18 months. It’s not always been an easy ride, but it’s been made a damn sight better because everyone pulled together.

So bring on our 14th birthday. We’re excited to see where we end up in 2022 and hope for a brighter 12 months for everyone.
